ALUMINIUM EXPLORER / ALUMINIUM TRAWLER
A material chosen for the Nordic coast.
For an explorer designed around Nordic waters, material choice is part of the boat's capability. Aluminium combines low structural weight with high strength, making it well suited to a vessel that needs to carry fuel, water, equipment and people without turning that payload into unnecessary displacement.
For North Patrol 35, the aluminium concept is closely connected to the way the boat is intended to be used: coastal exploration, changing weather, shallow archipelagos and longer periods onboard. A welded aluminium hull provides a practical foundation for a robust, purpose-built Aluminium Explorer and Aluminium Trawler.
WHY ALUMINIUM
Strong where it
matters.
Aluminium offers a useful combination of strength, weight and durability for an explorer boat. A properly engineered and welded marine-aluminium structure can provide a rigid hull with relatively low weight, while the material is naturally suited to a working environment where practical maintenance and long service life matter.
- High strength-to-weight ratio. Lower structural weight can support useful payload, efficiency and range.
- Robust construction. Welded aluminium allows the hull, deck and structural elements to be developed as a coherent load-bearing structure.
- Well suited to exploration. The material is commonly chosen for workboats and utility vessels where durability and practical operation are priorities.
- Corrosion resistance. Aluminium forms a protective oxide layer, while proper alloy selection, welding practice, surface treatment and isolation from dissimilar metals remain important.
- Practical ownership. A straightforward, accessible structure can be advantageous when a boat is expected to spend substantial time in remote coastal environments.
NORDIC CONDITIONS
Built for water,
weather and distance.
Nordic boating can mean cold water, rapidly changing weather, exposed passages and narrow routes between rocks and islands. An explorer therefore needs more than a comfortable interior. It needs a hull and structure that support confidence when conditions change.
That is where the Aluminium Trawler concept becomes relevant. The objective is not simply to make a boat lighter. It is to combine structural efficiency with protection, usable volume and dependable handling, while keeping the design practical for the realities of the Scandinavian coastline.
ALUMINIUM TRAWLER
Efficiency without
compromising purpose.
A trawler-style explorer benefits from carrying capacity and endurance. Fuel, fresh water, equipment and provisions all add weight. Starting with an efficient structural material creates more freedom to allocate that weight where it provides genuine value: range, self-sufficiency, comfort and equipment for longer journeys.
For North Patrol 35 Explorer, that philosophy is reflected in the focus on extended coastal living, increased tank capacity and a separate rainwater collection and storage system. Aluminium is therefore not a decorative choice. It is part of the underlying design logic.
NORTH PATROL 35
An Aluminium Explorer
for the Nordic coast.
The North Patrol 35 combines a welded aluminium hull with a semi-displacement concept and a protected, practical interior. The result is intended to sit between a conventional leisure boat and a workboat-inspired explorer: comfortable enough for longer stays, but designed with the robustness and utility expected from an Aluminium Trawler.
In short, aluminium supports the central idea behind North Patrol 35: go further, stay longer, and remain comfortable when the Nordic coast changes character.
